INTERNATIONAL FINE ART COMPETITION 2009
In conjunction with the Berlin Art Gallery “Magnificat” and the “Institute for Social Strategy” the Association “Art and Prison” announces an international fine art competition whose main focus is to draw attention to the treatment of minorities.
In accordance with its primary objective, “Art and Prison” focuses mainly on persons who are forced to live in prisons. However, it also desires to enlist the support of artists who, through their art, have contributed to understanding the concrete situation of those people whose human dignity is not respected.
The invitation to participate in this fine art competition is directed primarily at men, women and youths in prison and, in accordance with the corresponding institutions within the penal system (social, educational, therapeutic, spiritual sections...) will be sent either directly or through the higher administrative or ministerial departments.
Artists who are interested in building bridges between divergent societal groups and desire to expose the reality of individual people and minorities who live on the margins of society and whose dignity is not always respected are also welcome to participate.
“Art” can – and not only “behind bars” - become an open window through which to escape the confines of one's own existence.
This background makes the choice of theme understandable that was decided upon by experts questioned by the association “Art and Prison”. These experts also make up the jury and are responsible for selection of the winners.
