California Prison Focus is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to identifying, monitoring and ending the human rights violations in California prisons. CPF educates the community about human rights abuses and engages in public advocacy for prisoners human rights. Essential to that task is providing a voice for prisoners to speak about their conditions and concerns, and empowering prisoners and their loved ones to more successfully advocate on their own behalf. CPF seeks an end to the use of long term solitary confinement in California prisons and the closing of all Security Housing Units.

CPF is working to bring a legitimate conclusion to this era of torture of the poor and disenfranchised by raising the demands of reconsideration, rehabilitation, restitution review and removal. The sentences of prisoners subjected to conditions in which false charges or set-up violations occurred must be reconsidered. Goodtime lost to the kangaroo court must be returned, because lost goodtime effectively lengthens a sentence. Rehabilitative services must be available to prisoners who have survived inhumane treatment at the hands of the CDoC. The State must make reasonable restitution to prisoners, their families and their communities for the grievous wrongs done. The US State Department is obliged to review the violations of US human rights treaties. Finally, we demand the removal of all in the chain of command in SHU torture.

California Prison Focus needs your help and support. Only through the vigorous action of citizens will we be able to put a stop to the ongoing human rights violations in Californias prisons. Not only do the abuses suffered by prisoners violate the U.S. Constitution, they violate the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Convention Against Torture. The United States has signed both of these United Nations treaties and must be forced to comply with the prohibitions against the cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment of prisoners.

California Prison Focus supports organizations and projects consistent with our goals and purposes.
