Governor Schwarzenegger Vetoes Anti-Shackling Bill

Unfortunately, AB 1900 (Skinner) which aimed to protect the health and safety of incarcerated pregnant women, was vetoed recently by the Governor.  The bill would have ensured that pregnant women will not be restrained during transport to/from correctional facilities unless they are a legitimate security or flight risk and passed out of the Assembly with no opposition.  However, Schwarzenegger declined to sign the bill.  The Center will continue working with other ally organizations to ensure the passage of this bill in the next cycle.
