HUNGER STRIKE UPDATE

Letter from Mutope Duguma (s/n James Crawford):

This Hungerstrike is Far From Over

It is a sincere pleasure to once again extend my hand to my beautiful New Afrikan people. I have been recuperating from not eating for 20 days straight and I can tell you based on my personal experience that it was hell! I could feel the life gradually being sucked out of me.

BART Disables Cell Service To Disrupt Protests

"In a statement released Friday, the government-run transit company said it allowed expressive activities, protected by the First Amendment in its public areas. But in the areas accessible to paid ticket passengers, it interrupted the phone to ensure safety for its customers and employees. “BART temporarily interrupted service at select BART stations as one of many tactics to ensure the safety of everyone on the platform,” the statement reads.

MOVIE REVIEW: CRIME AFTER CRIME

When lawyers Nadia Costa and Joshua Safran first encountered Deborah Peagler, she already had served 20 years of a 25-years-to-life sentence for involvement in the 1982 murder of her pathologically abusive boyfriend. Taking advantage of a California law that allows reconsideration of cases involving battered women, the lawyers embarked on a pro bono journey to free her that would last eight years and unearth a reeking trail of perjury, prosecutorial misconduct and political malfeasance.

Mark Duggan did not fire at police before he was killed

"The police shooting victim whose death sparked the riots did not fire at officers before he was killed, ballistic tests indicate.

There is "no evidence" that a handgun found at the scene where Mark Duggan was killed by armed officers was used, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.

The 29-year-old's death, after receiving a gunshot wound to the chest last Thursday, was a trigger for the first night's rioting in Tottenham on Saturday.

Mr Duggan's death came after two shots were fired by a Scotland Yard CO19 firearms officer, investigations show.

Doubts emerge over Duggan shooting as London burns

Doubts have emerged over whether Mark Duggan, whose death at the hands of police sparked the weekend's Tottenham riots, was killed during an exchange of fire .

The Guardian understands that initial ballistics tests on a bullet, found lodged in a police radio worn by an officer during Thursday's incident, suggested it was police issue – and therefore had not been fired by Duggan.
