Denial of Religious Service

Location of Prisoner:
New York
Date:
April, 2004

To whom it may concern,

My name is _____ and I'm currently an inmate in _____, New York. I am a Muslim and it is imperative that I attend Jumah (Friday) services. It is a sin to miss services. The Imam has tried unsuccessfully to get the administrators to allow me to attend Jumah services. In my 18 months of incarceration, I have only been allowed to attend 3 special services.

Conditions for Women in California

Location of Prisoner:
California
Date:
March, 2004

Dear PARC,

My name is ___, and I am currently incarcerated at the ___ located in California. I am but one of the many women here who are concerned about and frankly tired of the poor living accomondations and the utter disregard for our health and safety by those running this facility. I am writing to you on this date (3-21/04) in hopes of attaining guidance, direction, and /or assistance in resolving the dilemma at hand in an appropriate and timely manner. As of this date many of the female inmates have approached various Sergents, Lieutenants, the Captain, and Correctional Counselors(I,II, and  III) to little or no avail.

Toxic Sweatshops

"Toxic Sweatshops: How UNICOR Prison Recycling Harms Workers, Communities, the Environment, and the Recycling Industry" was released in October 2006. It is an important look into the world of the Prison Industrial Complex and the modern slavery that makes it a mult-milllion dollar a year business.

Political Prisoners

PARC works with prisoners of all types across the country, but wants to call special attention to high profile prisoners we believe are being kept in prison for political reasons.

STORY OF VISIT WITH WOMEN PRISONERS @ CHOWCHILLA,CA

Interchange

At a time historically when conversation is for the most part a lost art, I am amazed that the only people talking are those trapped next to each other on flights or in prison cells on lockdown, or on sinking ships once the last lifeboat is filled. Conversation is not the penalty for isolation, but often it feels such.

HELP STOP THE EXECUTION OF TROY DAVIS

Please sign and circulate the petition linked below asking the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole to save Troy Davis' life by commuting his sentence to life in prison. The petition is circulated by Color of Change which joins Amnesty International and NAACP in this appeal.  The Global Women’s Strike and Payday men’s network have supported Troy Davis’ fight for justice since first learning of it some years ago, and have signed. Also below is an appeal from Troy Davis' sister Martina Correia.
