PARC corresponds with and mails a directory of these resources to prisoners, their friends and family members. We are often the first point of contact for people to connect with prisoners' rights organizations, community organizations, prison literature and arts projects, family and visiting resources, health care and legal resources, parole and pre-release resources, and the prison abolition movement.

Fortune Society The Fortune Society’s vision is to create a world where all who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated can become positive, contributing members of society. They do this through a holistic, one-stop model of service provision. Their continuum of care, informed and implemented by professionals with cultural backgrounds and life experiences similar to those of their participants, helps ensure each individual’s success. The Fortune Society serves approximately 18,000 individuals annually via New York City-area locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, including their service center in Long Island City, and both The Fortune Academy and Castle Gardens in West Harlem. Also publishes The Fortune News twice per year, which is free to those incarcerated in NY. Serves people in New York only.

Jail and Prison Services at New York Public Library The NYPL's Correctional Library Services publishes "Connections", the most exhaustive guide and directory of resources in New York City available to help people when they are leaving correctional facilities. The guidebook is free to those incarcerated in New York State prisons and local jails, with mailed copies prioritized for soon-to-be-released individuals. Full PDF available online. Legal Aid Society Prisoner's Rights Project The Prisoner’s Rights Project (PRP) protects and enforces the legal rights of New York City and New York State prisoners through litigation, advice, and assistance to individual prisoners. PRP does not deal with criminal cases or sentences or matters related to parole. Request help by phone at (212-577-3300), or their Helpline (888-663-6680) which is staffed Mon-Fri 10am-3pm. Prisoners' Legal Services of New York PLSNY provides free legal services to New York State prisoners - not serving those in jails or federal prison. Pre-release and re-entry program (PREP) assists clients with 6-18 months from their release date. Also publishes Pro Se newsletter six times per year, providing information and analysis on recent developments in NY prison law. To subscribe, send a subscription request with prisoner's name, DIN number, and facility to: Pro Se, 114 Prospect Street, Ithaca, NY 14850. Past issues are downloadable from their website. Sylvia Rivera Law Project The SRLP Prisoner Justice Project provides assistance in civil matters to people held in New York City jails and in New York State Prisons. We are unable to provide direct legal services with criminal cases or appeals of criminal cases although we are happy to work with your attorney to ensure trans-competent representation. We are able to provide the following services: assistance with name changes, identity documents, obtaining hormones, obtaining gender appropriate undergarments, preparing for parole appearances, advocacy and support around sexual violence, transfers and requests for alternate housing, conditions of solitary, mental health care needs and assessments, obtaining correct sentence calculations, review and appeal of disciplinary solitary confinement (Tier IIIs), and other civil matters concerning conditions of confinement.
